What a complete joy. From the hectic streets of Manchester to the serene Yorkshire Dales, or the beautiful Holy Island, John Brown unpicks the myths and pre-conceivd ideas about northern life. Each chapter peels away a little of the veneer to leave you wanting more.
Based on his previous works, I wondered whether he would apply the same ironic style that he used so well in 'Return to Oz' ? I needn't have worried , for you don't have to turn many pages to find some obscure fact, wrapped up in a chuckle. i particularly likeked the chapter on Liverpool - simply great !
